Christchurch police are investigating two reports of shots being fire in separate suburbs overnight.

In the first incident police were called to Hammond Place in Spreydon at about 10.25pm after a report of shots fired.

A police spokeswoman told Chris Lynch there were no injuries.

Enquiries into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing.

In a separate incident, police were called to Gayhurst Road in Dallington about 10.30pm after a report of shots fired.

There were no injuries and police enquiries into the circumstances of the incident were ongoing a spokeswoman said.

A resident opposite the scene on Gayhurst Road said he heard gunshots.

“I went outside to look and saw nothing then 10 minutes later I heard a lot of yelling outside and it was armed police trying to get into the house.”

Another resident further down the road said he heard gun shots being fired.

The police spokeswoman said “enquiries into both incidents are in their early stages, and it is too soon to establish a link between the two.”
