Youth arrested after failing to stop for police and crashing car

A youth has been arrested after failing to stop for police last night and crashing a car.

A police spokeswoman told Chris Lynch Media police responded to incidents involving three vehicles in the Somerfield area last night.

“On a number of occasions, the vehicles were seen driving dangerously and exceeding the speed limit. 

One of the vehicles was seen on Cashmere Road, turning down Milton Street around 3:20am and failed to stop for police.”

“The vehicle was not pursued by police and crashed into a power pole on Barrington Street a short time later. “

One youth was taken into custody at the scene, and no one was injured. 

The other vehicles were not located by police and enquiries are ongoing to identify those involved.

An eyewitness told Chris Lynch Media he woke up to “an almighty crash. The cops were all over it in seconds.”

The youth is due to appear in Christchurch Youth Court tomorrow on a charge of unlawfully getting into a motor vehicle.
