Residents in Bexley say they’re feeling scared and anxious and police stay quiet on this morning’s stabbing in the area.

Police were called to Pages Road just after 6AM, after a man walking his dog was stabbed multiple times.

Police issued a short statement this morning, but have not provided any other details.

Residents near the scene say they’re feeling anxious knowing that police are still looking for the offender but have not provided a description.

One resident said while it was good to see an increase of police in the area “it was frightening knowing that something like that happened so close to a popular walking track.”

“It makes me feel so unsafe, my neighbour and I have spoken about keeping our families inside, as we just don’t really know what’s going on.”

This afternoon, just after 3PM, police in boiler suits were still combing Bexley Reserve.

A police tent has been set up near Pages Road, and a police command unit was still at the scene.

Pages Road between Portchester Street and Farnborough Street remains blocked off by police.

City-bound traffic will be detoured via Anzac Drive/Wainoni Road.

Eastbound traffic will be detoured via local roads.

Police have advised the Christchurch City Council that this will remain in place until at least 9 pm tonight.
