Police have named the name the man who has died following an assault on Cashel Street on Monday 18 October.

He was 61-year-old Anthony Michael Kelly of Christchurch.

“Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.

As this matter is before the courts, Police are unable to comment further.”

An 18-year-old man has previously appeared before the court, on a charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

It is understood Mr Kelly was chased along Colombo Street to Cashel Mall just outside Ballantynes department store where he was attacked.
