A person has died, following a crash in Kaikōura this morning.

The crash, involving a truck and a car, occurred shortly before 6am on SH1, Hapuku.

One person died at the scene.

A second person is reported to have received minor injuries.

SH1, north of Kaikōura, is expected to be closed for some time while emergency services attend.

Police investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash are interested in hearing from anyone who may have witnessed the incident.

“We are particularly interested in speaking to the occupants of a white van, which was seen in the area at the time and may be able to assist us with our enquiries.

Motorists should continue to avoid the area, as the road remains blocked.

We ask that drivers please remain patient, as we work to have the road cleared as soon as possible.”
