Emergency services were called to a crash near Fernside on Tuesday evening after a vehicle left the road and entered the Cust River.

A police spokesman told chrislynchmedia.com the single-vehicle crash happened at around 7.25pm at the intersection of Barkers Road and Main Drain Road.

The driver was initially reported as being trapped inside the vehicle, before emergency crews arrived.

The driver were transported to hospital in a moderate condition, the police spokesman said.

The Cust River is relatively small. It’s a spring-fed river, running through rural farmland and is typically shallow with a narrow flow.

While it can swell during heavy rain, under normal conditions it’s not deep or wide.

Police, Fire and Emergency, and St John attended the scene.
