A paraglider has been taken to hospital in a serious condition after crashing into the sea off Taylors Mistake late Friday morning.
Emergency services were called to the scene around 11.50AM after reports that a paraglider had overshot their landing and ended up in the water.
“The paraglider was visible, and resources were being deployed to reach them,” a police spokeswoman told chrislynchmedia.com.
Coastguard Sumner and Surf Life Saving Taylors Mistake responded to the scene, with support from a rescue helicopter.
A St John spokeswoman said ambulance crews assessed two people.
One person was uninjured, while the other was treated at the scene and transported to Christchurch Hospital in a serious condition.
