A 15-year-old Christchurch girl says she was punched in the face, and left with a suspected broken nose, in a road rage incident in Upper Riccarton on Sunday.

The altercation began around 12.15PM when the girl was a passenger in her friend’s dad’s car.

The vehicle had pulled out of a turning lane on Blenheim Road to continue straight, unintentionally cutting off a grey car behind them.

“They slammed on the brakes and honked at us. We apologised with hand signals and went on our way because no one was hurt,” she said.

However, the occupants of the grey car allegedly began following them.

When the group stopped midway down Arthur Street, the situation escalated.

She and her friend briefly went inside the house. When they returned to the vehicle, the female passenger from the grey car was at the driver’s window yelling and claimed she was on the phone to police.

Despite the friend’s dad saying they needed to leave, the female allegedly stood in front of the vehicle, shouting that they were trying to run her over.

“As we got around her, she saw me in the back seat and punched me through the window. She struck my face, hitting my nose” the teenager said.

Her friend’s dad got out of the car and attempted to record the number plate, but the male driver of the grey car allegedly hit him in the arm and leg before the pair drove off.

A police spokesman confirmed to chrislynchmedia.com, an assault on Arthur Street was reported to police yesterday afternoon.

“It appears the victim is likely to present to the station today to complete the report,” the spokesman said.

The teen’s mum told chrislynchmedia.com she couldn’t bring herself to watch the footage which was partially filmed from inside the car by the girl’s friend.

However, Chris Lynch Media has seen the footage which does show an assault taking place.

The mum said after the incident was reported to police, they were encouraged to go to the Emergency Department for a check up.

The woman filmed punching the teenage girl contacted chrislynchmedia.com and offered her version of events.

She claimed the incident began when the driver of the vehicle “almost crashed” into her car, which had a two-year-old child inside.

“He then takes off without checking that we are okay,” she said. “I have then pulled up beside them and asked why he just done that while on the phone to police. I was getting his rego we [sic] he decided to drive over my foot and then continue to keep driving into me,” she alleged.

She claimed, “The girl wound her window down and started yelling at me as the man was still driving into me. I then punched her in the face and that’s the only reason that they drove away.”

However, video footage didn’t support this version.
