A Christchurch man was attacked by teenagers with a vice grip after he caught them stealing his partner’s car.

His partner told Chris Lynch at 1.20 AM Wednesday they heard car doors slam on Cashel Street.

“There’s never car door noises at that time, so I logged onto the security cameras and saw the driver’s door of my car wide open, so my partner ran outside.”

A getaway car was on the other side of the street.

In the security video supplied to Chris Lynch Media (see below) the woman’s partner is seen running outside, chasing after the offenders, while they were still in the moving stolen car.

He managed to catch up to them and an altercation took place. The offenders were three teenagers – two boys, and a girl.

“One of the teens got out of the car and hit my partner around the head using a vice grip,” the woman said.

“The girl came at him with a glass bottle.

The other teenager had crutches and they all managed to escape using the nearby getaway car, which I believe was also stolen.

My partner came home, and we went looking for the offenders for 15 minutes, but they were long gone.

When we returned home my partner started vomiting from a suspected concussion, so I called the ambulance and police.

They came quickly and took all the evidence needed.

A St John Ambulance spokeswoman said one ambulance attended the scene.

A police spokesman said the victim suffered a minor injury and was treated by ambulance staff.

“This incident would have been upsetting to both the victim and his partner.

Those involved were described as being young people aged around 14 to 15 years old. They got into a vehicle and left the scene” the spokesperson said.

The victim’s partner said he still isn’t right following the attack.

“He hasn’t eaten since the incident, he’s lost his appetite and just feels sick all the time.”

Police are continuing to make inquiries into this incident and ask anyone with any information which may assist police to contact 105 quoting file number 220831/1264.
