A popular line of reusable coffee cups sold at Kmart has been urgently recalled due to a safety risk.

The Anko Double Walled Coffee Cups with Lids, available in sunset, sage, and black, pose a danger when filled with hot liquid.

According to a recall notice, the lid may rapidly release and pop off, as the cups lack a pressure release valve — creating a risk of burns from hot liquid or steam.

At least one injury has already been reported.

The affected products were sold at Kmart stores across New Zealand between 18 December 2024 and 27 March 2025.

The impacted product SKUs are: 43479030, 43479047, and 43479054.

Consumers are urged to stop using the cups immediately and return them to their nearest Kmart store for a full refund.

If you’re unable to return the product in person, or if you’ve sold or gifted it to someone else, Kmart asks that you contact their customer service team.

The recall is being managed by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE).
