Two injured after running red light on e-scooter and crashing into police car

Two people were injured after running a red light on an e-scooter and crashing into a police car in central Christchurch early Saturday morning.

Police said the incident happened around 1.40am at the intersection of Montreal Street and Hereford Street.

“Two people on an e-scooter went through a red light and collided with a police patrol car travelling through a green light,” a police spokesperson said.

The pair received minor injuries and were assessed by ambulance staff at the scene.

No police officers were injured.

There was minor damage to the patrol car.
