The driver involved in an alleged hit-and-run on Bower Avenue has been summoned to appear in court.

A 14-year-old schoolgirl sustained minor injuries after being struck by a vehicle shortly after 3pm on Monday.

The vehicle fled the scene following the collision, according to a police spokeswoman.

A local resident, who captured the incident on CCTV, said he heard a noise and discovered the injured girl outside his home.

“It was pretty upsetting. The young girl was clearly in shock, but thankfully her injuries weren’t serious,” he said.

After reviewing his surveillance footage, he found it had recorded the moment of the crash.

A police spokesman told chrislynchmedia.com that the driver has been summonsed to appear in the Christchurch District Court on “driving charges.”

The specific charges were not immediately available.
