Emergency services responded to a garage fire in Aranui on Wednesday morning.

Fire and Emergency NZ shift manager Ryan Dawson told chrislynchmedia.com crews were dispatched at 11:30 am after multiple 111 calls reported the fire.

Three fire trucks were sent to Tomrich Street to bring the blaze under control.

No injuries were reported.

Residents in the area said thick black smoke was visible from a distance as the fire burned.

Fire crews were called to the blaze around the same time as a fire ripped through a house in Kaiapoi, destroying the home.
