A man arrested in Rolleston following a distressing incident involving the violent attack of a dog has been remanded on bail.

The incident, captured on security camera, shows a man striking and kicking the dog on Park Lane near Levi Park on 9 January.

The video went viral, with members of the Rolleston Community Facebook page identifying the person to police.

He was expected to appear in the Christchurch District Court on Friday, facing a charge of animal cruelty.

The man has been remanded on bail and is scheduled to reappear on 29 April.

Earlier, police told chrislynchmedia.com that Selwyn Police executed a search warrant at a Rolleston address in connection with an animal cruelty case involving a German Shepherd.

“Police can reassure the public that the dog is safe.”
