Selwyn police have uncovered a meth lab at a North New Brighton Kāinga Ora property, leading to the arrest of a man.
A police spokesman told chrislynchmedia.com Selwyn Police executed a pre-planned search warrant on Friday morning at an address on Bower Avenue.
While Police were searching the property, it became apparent had been used for the manufacturing of methamphetamine, the police spokesman said.
“The address was cleared and secured, and will be attended by the national clan lab unit.”
A resident on Bower Avenue told Chris Lynch Media he was taken by surprise when police arrived at his neighbour’s property at 8.30AM on Friday, but instead entered his own property using a ladder before jumping over the backyard fence and surrounding his neighbour’s property.
He said Armed Offenders Squad was involved in the operation.
The resident said the property was one of several new units built and managed Kāinga Ora and it wasn’t unusual to hear fighting going on late at night at the complex.
The property remains cordoned off by police, with multiple officers still inside the house.
“There’s quite a few of them sitting at a table, going through several items”
A police forensic tent has been set up on the property, and several police units remain stationed on the street.
A Kāinga Ora spokesman confirmed to chrislynchmedia.com that the property was a Kāinga Ora home.
A man at the address was arrested and charged with multiple methamphetamine dealing charges, police said.
