A person has died following a crash in Little River, Canterbury.

Police were called to Christchurch Akaroa Road/State Highway 75 just before 6:20am, following reports of a single-vehicle crash.

A police spokesman said despite the best efforts of emergency services, the person died at the scene.

The road was closed while the Serious Crash Unit conducted a scene examination but reopened about midday.
