Westpac One digital banking is down again, sparking outrage from customers across New Zealand as frustrations grow over repeated outages during the holiday season.

The bank said, “Our tech team is looking into this with urgency. We apologise for the inconvenience.”

Christchurch shopper Kerry Dale said, “I have been a Westpac Banking Corporation customer for over 20 years. Never have I ever had such low-quality service from them.

“Just this time last weekend, the Westpac One app was down for over 12 hours, meaning I could not start my Christmas shopping or order the groceries online. This is not unusual for Westpac; the app is down quite frequently.

“Unfortunately, if this keeps happening, I will have to consider changing to Kiwibank. And I will always have cash on me, because ‘Cash is King.’

Other customers have voiced their anger, with one saying, “This is ridiculous! We can’t keep having the same issues, especially when people are trying to do Christmas shopping!” Another added, “You guys have to be the worst bank in the Pacific, if not the world. Right before Christmas, your poorly made online systems have failed again, keeping people from accessing their own money.”

One furious user said, “Your rubbish excuse for internet banking has failed yet again. I seriously hope there’s some legal action from those of us affected. At this point, it’s a bloody joke.”

In a very short statement,  a Westpac spokeswoman said “Westpac One experienced a brief outage this morning from approximately 10am until 10.40am. It has now been restored and all systems are operating as normal.”

She offered no apology to customers.
