La Vida Youth Trust celebrated its 20th anniversary on Wednesday with a lively community event, marking two decades of empowering young people and supporting families across Christchurch.
Since its inception in 2004, the Trust has focused on its mission of “Empowering Youth, Strengthening Families, and Igniting Potential.”
The celebration attracted a wide array of attendees who enjoyed food trucks, an indoor inflatable playground, face painting, live music from Kit and Kaye Grenon, glowsticks, carnival games, and a photo booth.
“This celebration isn’t just about looking back; it’s also about casting our vision forward,” said Angela Crocker, Chairperson of La Vida Youth Trust. “We are excited to celebrate our story with the communities that have been part of our journey, and we’re looking forward to expanding our work into new areas like Lincoln.”
Rooted in the Upper Riccarton area, the Trust has recently expanded its reach, opening a youth drop-in centre in New Brighton, which now sees around 50 young people on Friday nights.
Looking ahead, La Vida Youth Trust has plans to open a similar centre in Lincoln in 2025, responding to local needs for youth engagement as identified by a police youth aid officer in the area.
In addition to its drop-in centres, La Vida Youth Trust’s current initiatives include placing 24-7 Youth Workers in schools, running a Breakfast Club and an After School Programme, and providing counselling and practical support to families in need, with assistance from Life Church.
