Quincy Jones, music titan who worked with everyone from Frank Sinatra to Michael Jackson, dies at 91

Quincy Jones, the legendary music producer and cultural icon, has passed away, at the age of 91 in Bel Air, Los Angeles.

His family confirmed his death, expressing gratitude for his remarkable life and contributions to music.

Over a career spanning more than 70 years, Jones produced iconic works, including Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” and the charity single “We Are the World”.

He won 28 Grammy Awards and was a pioneering figure in the entertainment industry, collaborating with artists like Frank Sinatra and Aretha Franklin.

Quincy Jones played a crucial role as the producer of “We Are the World,” a charity single recorded in 1985 to raise funds for famine relief in Africa.

He was responsible for organising the recording session, which brought together 46 of the biggest stars in music under the banner “Check Your Ego at the Door”.

Jones co-produced the song with Michael Omartian and coordinated the involvement of artists like Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, and Stevie Wonder.

His leadership was instrumental in managing the diverse talents and ensuring the project’s success.
