A Halswell home is set to light up Halloween night with a dazzling display that combines spooky fun with community spirit.

Located at 7 Luxembourg Crescent, the house of Rick Winter and his son Riley has transformed from a simple holiday project into a neighbourhood tradition, now raising funds for CanTeen, which supports young people impacted by cancer.

Rick Winter shared how the annual display began, saying, “We first set up the light show three years ago as a Christmas display after my son Riley, who was seven at the time, asked to put up some lights for Christmas.”

The display initially started small but quickly captured the hearts of Winter’s son and the local community. “We started small but quickly saw how much joy it brought to him and the community, so it became a bit of a passion project for us,” Winter said.

With the display’s popularity growing, Winter decided to extend the light show to Halloween. “Since then, it’s grown into something much bigger, and we decided to expand it to Halloween. There’s something fun about creating a show that captures the spooky spirit of Halloween,” he said.

The Halloween show now features a range of music and effects programmed to sync with the lights, adding an extra touch of magic to the display.

“We get the chance to use different kinds of music and effects, which we program to sync up with the lights. It’s become a bit of a neighbourhood tradition now, and seeing people come by and enjoy the display, especially families with kids, makes it all worth it,” Winter added.

The show is a collaborative effort between Winter and his son, who handle everything from the programming to the design and even building the pixel light fixtures.

“The whole setup is done from scratch—everything from the programming to the design and even building the pixel light fixtures. Riley and I work on it together, so it’s a bonding project as much as a creative one. Halloween has quickly become a highlight of the year for us,” he said.

Winter encouraged locals to come by and experience the display, adding, “It’s a frightfully fun display, and we’re raising gold coin donations for CanTeen to support young people impacted by cancer.”

The Halloween light show at 7 Luxembourg Crescent starts tonight, promising a frightfully festive experience for all ages.

The display is free to view and a gold coin donation is welcome.
