West Coast Emergency Management has been closely monitoring severe weather impacting the region today, with MetService issuing a strong wind watch for Westland and heavy rain warnings for both Buller and Grey districts.
Monitoring teams in Buller and Grey are preparing to activate emergency operations centres if necessary.
Emergency services, infrastructure entities, and representatives from regional and local councils are set to meet on Saturday afternoon to provide updates and coordinate planning.
Group manager Claire Brown said community coordinators had been contacted, and the organisation was working closely with partner agencies as the weather event unfolds.
“Members of the public are advised to keep up to date with weather information as rivers may rise quickly, surface flooding and slips are possible, and driving conditions could be hazardous,” she said.
Residents in affected areas are strongly encouraged to stay informed as conditions develop.
