A 26-year-old Christchurch man has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon after an altercation overnight.

A police spokesman told chrislynchmedia.com Police were called to a service station on Russley Road about 10.40pm, following an altercation between two men.

The Z Energy premises had a large police presence last night, but wasn’t cordoned off.

 No serious injuries were reported, but the offender left the scene and was located a short time later at a Yaldhurst Road address.

A machete was also located, the police spokesman said.

Enquiries are ongoing and the man is due to appear in the Christchurch District Court on 18 October.
