Motorists are being warned to expect delays following a car fire near Little River.

Crews from Akaroa Fire Station were called to the fire on the main road (State Highway 75) between Puaha Road and Harmans Track, described as halfway up the hill on the Little River side.

A police spokeswoman said the fire was reported at 4.35pm, and traffic management was put in place.

The fire was potentially caused by a mechanical issue with the car, and the driver was able to pull over into a driveway, the police spokeswoman said.
