Emergency services were called to the scene of a crash near Kirwee.
They were called to West Coast Road, near Hoskyns Road, around 9:30 PM on Thursday.
At least three people have been seriously injured in what’s believed to be a head-on crash at high speed.
Two people were trapped in one vehicle and another in a second.
Fire and Emergency crews from Kirwee and Darfield, along with police and ambulance, were on-site.
A nearby resident said six St John emergency vehicles were at the scene.
NZTA warned motorists that due to the serious crash, SH73 was closed between Hoskyns Road and Station Road intersections.
“Please expect delays and take extra care. Follow directions of emergency services on scene.”
