ANZ’s banking services are offline again following a series of cyber attacks.

On Friday morning the bank’s website and mobile app goMoney were unable to load.

It’s the third day the bank has experienced issues following cyber attacks.

In an online statement the bank said “it seems we’re experiencing outages again across our online services.”

“Please remember your cards, ATMs, direct debits and APs that are already set up will still work.”

“Unfortunately while the outage has mostly been resolved for our NZ based customers, we’ve noticed our overseas customers are still experiencing some issues.”

But the bank’s smartphone apps were still offline at 11.30AM.

It’s understood the bank was targeted with a DDoS attack, which restricts or impair access to a computer system or network.

Andrew Hampton, Director-General of the Government Communications Security yesterday said “we are seeing an increase in the speed and scale of scanning and mass exploitation of recently disclosed vulnerabilities.”

“Malicious actors are quickly taking advantage of newly discovered vulnerabilities by targeting every device and organisation that is potentially vulnerable to exploitation.”

“They do this to establish a foothold into networks, and then selectively pick their targets for further compromise. A recent example of this was the targeting of Microsoft Exchange vulnerabilities, which was publically attributed by the New Zealand Government and international partners to the Chinese state.”

ANZ has been approached for comment.
