Christchurch Bull Breed Rescue (CBBR) is in a tough spot and is urging the public to help them out.
With bills piling up and donations dwindling, the rescue is struggling to keep the lights on—literally.
Today marks the 20th of the month, and that means vet bills, internet, phone, insurance, fuel, and more are all coming due.
As it stands, there simply isn’t enough money to cover these essential expenses.
And to make matters worse, the lease payment is looming on the 1st of the month, with no clear way to meet it.
Abbey van der Plas, who runs CBBR, shared the stark reality of the situation.
“It’s been a while since I’ve had to make a plea like this, and I hate it because I know that nearly every single household is also struggling,” she said.
“But if you can spare the cost of a coffee or a snack today, please consider making a donation for the dogs.”
The rescue, like many others across the country, is facing unprecedented challenges.
The costs of vet care, fuel, and basic necessities continue to rise, but donations aren’t keeping pace.
“As fast as we build up a small stash to help us shift premises, which we desperately need to do, we spend it again.
“We just constantly feel like we’re under a landslip, and the worst part about it is I know that every single household is feeling it too. That makes asking for help so much harder because I know the donations come from people who understand the struggle.”
CBBR is not just asking for cash donations, though those are urgently needed. If you’re in need of some new clothing or goodies, consider shopping through their online store—every purchase helps keep the rescue afloat she said.
