Selwyn District Mayor has proposed raising the speed limit on parts of Christchurch’s Southern Motorway from 100kph to 120kph, a suggestion that has drawn mixed reactions from the public.
Christchurch Deputy Mayor Pauline Cotter expressed her concerns in an interview with Chris Lynch, saying, “I don’t share that view. Whether the limit is 100 or 120, people are likely to go 130, which is extremely fast. We know that if there’s an incident or a crash at those speeds, the damage is much more severe.”
