Metservice issues severe wind warnings for the Canterbury High Country

Metservice has issued severe wind warnings for the Canterbury High Country.
It said there could be severe gale northwesterly gusting 120km/h in exposed places.
Winds expected to ease in the south of this area from afternoon on Saturday for 17hrs from 1am – 6pm Sat, 1 Jun.

Strong wind gusts could damage trees, powerlines and unsecured structures. Driving may be hazardous, especially for high-sided vehicles and motorcycles.

Meanwhile there’s a strong wind watch for Inland Canterbury Plains for 12hrs from 6am – 6pm Sat, 1 Jun

Northwesterly winds may approach severe gale in exposed places. Winds expected to ease from the south from late afternoon.
