A 24-year-old man has now been taken into custody following yesterday’s assault in Addington which sparked a large police presence.

Armed police arrested the man on Domain Tce this morning.

A neighbour told Chris Lynch Media he was arrested “without much fuss, although there were a lot of armed police down the street.”

He was due to appear at Christchurch District Court on multiple charges including threatening to kill.

Cordons were put in place yesterday afternoon around a Whiteleigh Avenue property, where a person was injured.

Residents near the Z Service Station on the corner of Barrington Street and Lincoln Road were asked to evacuate by police as a precautionary measure.

It’s believed the man allegedly assaulted a person, and was thought to be carrying a firearm.

A local school was placed into lockdown on Tuesday afternoon while armed police searched areas nearby.
