A man has been rescued from the roof of his car after it got stuck in a flooded river near Darfield.
Police responded to reports of a vehicle that was stranded in the middle of the Hawkins River around 10:40pm late last night.
Upon arrival, a person was seen standing on the vehicle.
The person managed to make his way to a riverbank where Police pulled him out of the river around 12:30am.
A St John Spokesperson said they assessed and treated one patient who was transported to Christchurch hospital in a moderate condition.
Across Canterbury, there were multiple road closures and widespread surface flooding from the heavy rainfall.

Tuahiwi residents self-evacuated last night as a precaution against rising floodwaters.
A total of eight groups went through the Kaiapoi Civil Defence Centre, but no groups needed to stay overnight. The Civil Defence Centre at The Riverside Church, Kaiapoi is now closed.

The rain is set to ease steadily throughout the day and rivers are already beginning to recede.
Council crews are clearing stormwater grills and sucker trucks working throughout the day to resolve issues where possible.
