A helicopter has been called out to rescue two climbers at Arthur’s Pass National Park.

A police spokeswoman told Chris Lynch emergency services received a report of a personal location beacon activation just before 9pm on Saturday.

The two climbers decided to stay the night on Mount Rolleston because it was too unsafe to walk out due to weather conditions.

Mount Rolleston is a prominent peak in Arthur’s Pass National Park

The police spokeswoman said it appears they were both well prepared and experienced.

A helicopter was unable to get to them last night but has been dispatched this morning to assist.
