Fire and Emergency crews are at the scene of a large and fast moving scrub fire on private property on Inland Rd, Waiau near the Conway River.

This fire is currently not under control and there are 8 appliances and 2 helicopters working to contain it.

The weather conditions in the area are extremely strong Norwest winds which are hampering efforts to contain the fire.

The Fire service said if you are in the area please stay away and allow crews to work safely.
