A popular bakery in Lincoln has urged customers to stop abusing staff after copping abuse on the first day of the COVID-19 traffic light system.

It comes after the CDHB announced today that Canterbury had reached the 90 percent target for double-vaccination of its eligible population.

If venues don’t abide by strict Government Covid-19 passport rules, they can be issued with a $15,000 fine

In a since-deleted post, The Rustic Cafe said “we are absolutely disappointed and disgusted in the behaviour some people have displayed this morning.”

“This is NOT our choice we did NOT make up these rules we have done what’s BEST for our business and staff and customers well being.”

Chris Lynch media approached the owner of the bakery who wanted to make it clear that they “didn’t run to the media,” and the post had generated interest.

The owner said they had received hateful emails as a result of the post, which is why it was deleted this afternoon.

The post “we aren’t the only ones doing this either if we all had it our way we would 100% choose to have everyone as normal we were all in near tears today it’s all not a ideal situation. We ALL have been put into really crappy situations whatever your status is .”

There is a bit of confusion out there around Vaccine Passes. Most general retailers aren’t required to ask for them, but some businesses are choosing to do so. Customers going to a café, takeaway or personal service such as a beauty salon or barber will be asked for them, and it’s a good idea to have them ready.

Retail NZ Chief Executive Greg Harford

Retail NZ Chief Executive Greg Harford said he’s been hearing today about customers getting angry if asked to wear a mask or show their Vaccine Pass.

“These are legal requirements, and they are there to help keep everyone safe.”

He said “Retail NZ is asking everyone to be ready with their masks and Vaccine Passes, and while some people might find this frustrating, please don’t take out your anger on retail workers who are doing their best to meet all customer needs.”

Cafes, bars, restaurants and nightclubs, can open at Orange with no restrictions but only if they follow My Vaccine Pass requirements.

If a hospitality venue chooses to follow My Vaccine Pass requirements, only people with a My Vaccine Pass are allowed to be there.

Children under the age of 12 years and 3 months do not need to provide a My Vaccine Pass to enter places with a vaccination requirement.

There are no limits on the number of people who can be at the venue. You do not have to be seated to be served.

People without a My Vaccine Pass will be able to pick up takeaways if the venue has a contactless way to do this.
