One person is in a critical condition following a crash on Estuary Road, Christchurch last night.
A police spokesperson said it was reported as a two vehicle crash at 7.20pm Thursday.
A resident said it appeared the driver of the silver car may have lost control around the bend and smashed into a parked car, which snapped a power pole.
Firefighters had to cut the door to get the driver out the resident said.
A St John spokesperson said they responded with one ambulance and three rapid response vehicles.
The first person on the scene told Chris Lynch Media that the driver had crashed in her work car, and administered first aid until help arrived.
“Our ambulance crew assessed one patient at the scene, transporting them to Christchurch Hospital in a critical condition,” the St John spokesperson said.
Police said the road was cleared at around 11pm.
The Serious Crash Unit is investigating and enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
